a-squared HiJackFree 2.0 released!

The free system analysis tool provides a sensibly combined overview of all the relevant information needed for recognizing and eliminating Malware - with Online analysis, a new user interface, and a quarantine feature.

a-squared HiJackFree is oriented towards experienced users or system administrators, and helps with the manual recognition and elimination of Hijackers, Spyware, Adware, Trojans and Worms. Whether active processes, open ports, Autorun entries, Services, Explorer and Browser Plugins, DNS entries in the Hosts file or installed Layered Service Providers (LSPs): These are all clearly and completely listed, providing you with complete control and allowing manual intervention if necessary. The restructured user interface makes the program even easier to use than before.

Previously, only the file properties of the listed processes were available. With version 2.0, you as a system administrator or Malware specialist can now access a great deal more information. A single mouse click provides the associated file properties and process details for any listed process. Questions such as whether the program was started via an Autostart entry, whether it runs as a Windows Service, or whether it opens TCP or UDP ports, are answered at a glance. A list of loaded modules provides information as to whether a pest has "hooked" another process.

Another treat in the new version: Further information on all processes, ports, services, Autostarts etc. can be obtained via an Online query. The lists are colored according to the potential level of danger and offer comprehensive explanations of how the level of danger was assessed. For example, the Emsi Software process database checks whether the process has the same name as a typical Malware process, making it potentially dangerous, or whether it can be classified as completely harmless. That saves time for you: you must only occupy yourself with the suspicious entries and you can ignore the harmless ones.

Malware identification has also been simplified: A single mouse click allows the deletion of a process identified as Malware, along with the corresponding Autostart entries. If it is not 100% clear whether a program is dangerous or useful, then the new quarantine feature allows it to be removed from the active system but preserved and later restored if necessary.
